How to Fail at Publishing in a Whole New Way
Posted by Jane

Today at Maud Newton, John Warner (creative director of TOW Books), summarizes the new strategy of the TOW Books line:
Now, after two years of, let’s call it, non-success, I understand that the problem is at least as much about publicity and distribution as it is about quality. (At least I hope that’s the problem.) So I’m here to announce that if TOW Books is going to fail at publishing, we are going to fail in our own spectacularly new way.

How badly are we struggling? Well, we’ve released four books. Their Amazon rankings at the time of this typing are:

170,374
388,165
706,198
1,033,377

The most distressing part is that last number belongs to a book I wrote, So You Want to Be President? — a book that should have been especially relevant and timely given that it’s a guide to running for office when totally unqualified. I hope it’s in Governor Palin’s briefing materials.

Hi,
I have always said that if your going to go down...make sure it's in flames!
I am a single, part-time mom, 37yo, living in Kansas City. I have been in a slow financial spiral over the last 9 months and got yet another shut-off notice today. With absolutely no income. No savings. Nada.
You would think that with my background, I would be able to find some sort of job...but oh no!
I have decided that I am 'going amish', back to simpler times, living without my morning latte and saving my life.
I was thinking just now...what a great book. A documentary type thing, which of course will be quite funny.
I saw your blog and thought since your going down in flames...maybe we should go together.
I will write it, I will live it, you publish it. Yes?
I have 7 days until they shut off my electricity...so I had better get moving.
I think I will go borrow my first pair of CarHarts, which of course will never be returned.
I hope to hear from you!
